Benefits of Taking Band Through Air Cadets
Musical Skill Development
Cadets learn to play instruments such as flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, drums, and even bagpipes.
Instruction is provided by qualified instructors, and cadets receive music theory training, performance practice, and ensemble experience.
Leadership & Teamwork
Playing in a band is like being part of a team—cadets learn to coordinate, listen, and lead within a group setting.
Senior cadets may take on roles like Drum Major or Section Leader, building leadership skills.
Community Involvement
Bands perform at parades, ceremonies, and public events, helping cadets build confidence and pride while representing their squadron.
Summer Training Opportunities
Cadets can attend Music Summer Training Courses at Cadet Training Centres, which focus on improving proficiency and preparing cadets to support their squadron bands. These camps are often free and include accommodation, meals, and travel.
Recognition & Advancement
Cadets can earn Music Proficiency Badges and advance through levels, which are recognized within the program and can contribute to promotion eligibility.
No Cost to Participate
Instruments, music books, and supplies are typically provided by the squadron at no cost to the cadet.
